What is Sandplay Therapy?

Sandplay Therapy is an expressive therapy that uses a sand tray and miniature figures. In a safe, non-judgemental space, children create scenes that symbolically express emotions and experiences. With a trained psychologist’s support, play becomes the pathway to regulation, insight, and change.

Who Is It For?

Typically for ages 4–12 (teens welcome with adaptations). Helpful when your child needs support with:

  • Anxiety, worries, and big feelings

  • Emotion regulation and calming strategies

  • ASD/ADHD supports and sensory needs

  • Selective mutism, shyness, and confidence

  • Grief, change, and family transitions

  • School stress, social skills, and behaviour challenges

What Happens in a Session?

  • 45–60 minutes, child-led with gentle guidance

  • Sand tray, water, and shelves of miniatures (people, animals, nature, buildings)

  • Therapist stance: warm, curious, and containing

  • English & Mandarin available

FAQs

Q1: Can parents stay?
We may start with the parent nearby and transition to child-only sessions for privacy and confidence. Parent reviews occur every 4–6 sessions.

Q2: How soon will we see changes?
Many families notice small shifts within 4–6 sessions; deeper, more stable change often needs 8–12 sessions.

Q3: Is it messy? What about hygiene?
We use washable sand/water and sanitise miniatures regularly. Sensory needs are respected.

Q4: Do you run groups?
Yes—We have Sandplay Groups . Please enquire.

Q5: What is your cancellation policy?
Please cancel at least 48 hours in advance to avoid cancellation fee.

Q6: Do you accept funding or rebates?
NDIS plans (Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living) are accepted. Private health rebates may apply. Medicare rebates may be available with an eligible Mental Health Treatment Plan.
