What is an ADHD Assessment?
An ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Assessment is a gold-standard evaluation to explore a child’s social communication, play, behaviour, and sensory needs. Using structured tools, developmental history, and observations, our psychologists provide diagnostic clarity and tailored strategies that support learning, relationships, and daily life.
ASD Assessment Procedure
1. Initial Intake Interview – 1–1.5 hours

Parent/guardian interview (child may attend if appropriate).

Collect developmental, medical, family, and school history.

Discuss presenting concerns and goals of the assessment.
2. Questionnaires – ~2 hours (scoring & interpretation)

Completed by parents and teachers.

Focus on social communication, emotional regulation, adaptive skills, and daily functioning.

Common tools: BASC-3, Adaptive Behaviour Scales, SRS-2.
3. Teacher Interview

Phone consultation with classroom teacher.

Teacher provides observations of social interaction, communication, and classroom behaviour.

Enables comparison of functioning across home and school.
4. Direct Assessment Sessions – 3–6 hours

Conducted across 2–3 sessions depending on stamina and needs.

Includes:
• Cognitive testing if required (e.g., WISC-V).
• Autism-specific diagnostic testing:
– ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule)
– Play-based and communication tasks.
5. Report Writing & Integration – 6–8 hours

Detailed written report combining history, questionnaires, teacher input, and testing.

Provides diagnostic conclusions and recommendations for home, school, and therapeutic support.
6. Feedback Session – 1–2 hours

Review findings with parents (and child if appropriate).

Q1: Do I need a referral?
No, families can book directly. A paediatrician referral may allow Medicare rebates.
Q2: How many sessions are required?
Typically 2–3 child sessions, plus intake and a feedback meeting.
Q3: How long does it take to receive the report?
Reports are usually available within 2–4 weeks after the final session.
Q4: What if my child is very young?
We provide adapted assessments, including ADOS-2 for children under 4 years old.
Q5: Can the assessment also check for other conditions?
Yes. We consider overlapping needs such as ADHD, anxiety, or learning difficulties, and provide recommendations across areas.
Q6: Do you accept funding or rebates?
Yes. NDIS (Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living) is accepted. Some private health and Medicare rebates may apply.
