What is a Learning Disorder Assessment?

A Learning Disorder Assessment investigates a child’s academic skills and learning style to identify areas of difficulty such as reading, writing, or maths. Using standardised tools and observations, our psychologists provide diagnostic clarity, highlight strengths and challenges, and guide tailored interventions and school supports.

ADHD Assessment Procedure

1. Initial Intake Interview – 1–1.5 hours

  • Parent/guardian interview (child may attend if appropriate).

  • Collect developmental, medical, family, and school history.

  • Discuss main learning concerns (e.g., reading, spelling, writing, or maths).

2. Questionnaires – ~1–2 hours (scoring & interpretation)

  • Completed by parents and teachers.

  • Explore academic, behavioural, and executive functioning challenges.

  • Common tools: BASC-3, BRIEF2, Conners 4.

3. Teacher Interview

  • Phone consultation with classroom teacher.

  • Teacher provides observations of learning, attention, behaviour, and academic performance.

  • Enables comparison of home vs. school functioning.

4. Direct Assessment Sessions – 3–5 hours

  • Conducted across 1–2 sessions.

  • Includes:
    • Cognitive testing (e.g., WISC-V)
    • Academic testing (e.g., WIAT-III for reading, spelling, writing, and maths)
    • Additional tasks as required to clarify difficulties

5. Report Writing & Integration – 6–8 hours

  • Comprehensive written report integrating history, questionnaires, teacher input, and test results.

  • Provides diagnostic conclusions (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia).

  • Offers practical recommendations for classroom support, home strategies, and therapy.

6. Feedback Session – 1–2 hours

  • Review findings with parents (and child if appropriate).

  • Explain strengths, challenges, and strategies.

  • Q&A and planning next steps.
